Are you building enough silly things (Met Gala edition)? And are you using them to learn things?
The learning part is important...
This week in are you building enough silly things… I recently gave one of my favorite talks in a while (hopefully will post that soon).
I once again ended with this piece of advice for folks “Use AI to build silly things - side projects you care about but aren’t exactly critical.”
This gives you the patience to get through the jagged edges of a lot of the tools and models, but also gives you room to experiment. Folks asked me for more examples after the talk, so here last week’s edition..
I was loosely following the Met Gala red carpet as it was happening, but also watching the NBA playoffs - specifically Wemby and the San Antonio Spurs. Somewhere at the start of their game, my wife remarked she was going to wait till the end to get a summary of the best looks and then my almost 9yo said she was curious about the looks too.
So as I watched the Spurs battle the Timberwolves, I used Antigravity to iterate on an app that pulled all the looks from the Met Gala, organized them by designer, allowed my daughter to rank them and organize them by a few other attributes.
I used the opportunity to test how far the video models had some and what bounds I could push with editing and some effects of the videos.
It was a fun project that the next day delighted my daughter (pic attached) and satisfied my curiosity both about a topic I cared about while allowing me to understand a little more about what the state of these models were.
Good luck finding your silly project this week. :-)
